Music to touch your soul quite relies on one essential: changing your perspective, opening up a different view on the world than the one you might have cultivated in your life so far. And the best stories are always the ones that no one told yet. Conny Ochs reads the world around him and envisions signs that may be concealed and hidden to others. The results of his observation he channels into narratives driven by fervour and vulnerability. The new album "Doom Folk" walks new tracks but sometimes they are just running parallel to familiar paths.

Conny is touring since years as a rock'n'roll vagabond throughout the land and various countries, traveling from one show to another, playing the urban prairie as well as rural downtowns. He's a solo artist, mostly on his own but never lonesome. Witnesses of his journey are the albums "Raw Love Songs" (2011), "Black Happy" (2013) and "Future Fables" (2016), illustrating the evolution from a Blues/Folk-infused troubadour to the iconic singer/songwriter he is nowadays. While his early days circulated around the imagery of the lonesome rider, armed with a rugged dreadnaught guitar and a harp and the musical expression being bound to these limitations, since his album "Doom Folk" he already shed light on new ways of expression.

With his most recent release, “Wahn Und Sinn”, in which Ochs explores a collection of notebooks that he had collected during his time in Hamburg, Berlin and while traveling as a singer in various bands and which contained poems and lyrics in German language (followed up by publishing a selection of the poems as a book) collaborating with Tobias Vethake aka Sicker Man, with whom Ochs had already worked in the band project TRIALOGOS.

this most experiemtnal approach closes a bracket around its predecessors as well as the two records Conny Ochs recorded with Scott "Wino" Weinrich ("Heavy Kingdom", 2012 and "Freedom Conspiracy", 2015), which were also driven by a stripped-down, almost naked attitude in musicality.

Almost to the date, on October 25th 2024, Conny Ochs will release his new studio album “Troubadour”, which marks his return to the English language and the very roots of his music – in a very naked approach to the essence of his craft. Here´s what  “Troubadour” is about in CO´s own words:

I had a strong desire to create an album with the same minimal approach as “Raw Love Songs” and “Black Happy,” but with themes and vibes that reflect my current experiences. Since performing live has always been my main focus, I wanted to write songs that I could play in various settings, such as clubs, festivals, and while traveling, with minimal requirements. I aimed for a down-to-earth record that allows listeners to breathe, pay attention, and explore the details of the images it creates.

I’m eagerly anticipating performing these songs live and witnessing people’s reactions to the new tracks. I hope that these songs can provide the same room to breathe and reach out that it has given to me.

(August 2024)

In Fall And spring 2024/25 Conny Ochs will start touring his TROUBADOUR-Album extesively – mostly solo-acoustic - as fits the idea of the record - but on special occasion also teaming up with a special band setup.
